I’m thrilled to share the incredible transformation of The Christopher Goddfrey Carriage House—a historic gem with a story as rich as its architecture. Originally a working carriage house where horses once lived and ate, this stunning property became my first full restoration project and our cherished home for over five years.

The "main home" lies just down the hill, but it was this unique carriage house, with its 30-foot-high ceilings and grand 10-foot fireplace, that captured our hearts. The soaring ceilings were essential for storing hay in the great room, while the fireplace was so massive that we burned 6-foot logs to keep warm during cozy winter nights.

This project holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first home my husband and I purchased after we got married—following my marriage proposal to him 25 years ago this September! Now, I’m excited to reveal the stunning before-and-after photos, delve into the materials I carefully selected, explain the importance of curb appeal and landscaping, and share my contractor catastrophes. This project, being my first, taught me lessons I could only learn by doing. I went on to use all the lessons from this experience in every other project since.

With the help of my father’s invaluable wisdom on selecting the perfect annuals and perennials, I took on the challenge of landscaping myself—because I received insane estimates as high as 45K! Thanks to his guidance, I was able to create a beautiful, inviting landscape that enhances the home’s character.
